Your Summer Workwear Capsule Wardrobe for 2026 Is Simpler Than You Think
I’m coming back to the office after maternity leave, and it’s a stressful time. I have to update my knowledge, because in the age of AI everything has changed so fast. I’m thrilled and a bit scared to meet new colleagues and new management, and on top of that, I have nothing to wear — I haven’t updated my work capsule wardrobe in a while.
So in preparation for coming back to the office, I decided to upgrade my work wardrobe. For me, dressing well or poorly can really influence how I feel throughout the day. Knowing that I’ll already have plenty of work-related challenges ahead, I don’t want to spend extra energy wondering whether I look office-appropriate or whether my outfits feel dated and out of sync with my style.
I put together this work capsule wardrobe for my upcoming first day back, and I’m sharing it here for you to copy or draw inspiration from.
The 2026 Summer Workwear Trends Worth Knowing
This year, office dressing has fully embraced comfort without sacrificing polish. Relaxed tailoring is everywhere, and so are natural fabrics. Linen, bamboo, and organic cotton are not just trendy, they’re genuinely practical when temperatures rise.
Flat sandals, kitten slingback heels and loafers have also officially replaced heels as the go-to work shoe, so your feet will thank you. Key summer fashion trends that can be incorporated into summer office capsule wardrobe are bermuda shorts, scarfs, patterns and colors. You can read my full Summer 2026 fashion trend report here.

Why Earthy Tones Work Capsule Wardrobe?
I love earthy tones not just for work, but also for everyday wear. But especially for a work capsule wardrobe, neutrals and earthy tones work even better. And here’s why:
- They naturally mix and match with each other — camel, olive, terracotta, and sand all share warm undertones, so almost any combination just works.
- They create a cohesive, polished look effortlessly — because the palette is harmonious, even a simple outfit of two or three earthy pieces looks intentional and put-together. It’s that “I just threw this on” energy that somehow looks really stylish.
- They’re timeless, not trendy — earthy tones have been around forever and they’re not going anywhere. You’re investing in pieces that won’t feel dated next year, which is exactly what you want when you’re building a wardrobe meant to last.
- Neutrals play well with accent pieces — if you want to add a pop of colour (a cobalt blue scarf, a deep burgundy bag), earthy tones act as the perfect backdrop without competing for attention. I already have few pieces from years before that I will try to incorporate into my new work capsule wardrobe.
Keep It to 18 Pieces
For my upgraded work capsule wardrobe I chose 18 new pieces, including shoes and bags. Two pairs of pants and jeans, one bermuda shorts, one skirt, two dresses, four tops, one long sleeve shirt, two blazers, three shoe options, two bags. That’s it. Mix them well and you’ve got more outfits than you’ll need for the season.
Start small, choose quality over quantity, and build from there. Your mornings will be easier, your closet will feel lighter, and you’ll actually enjoy getting dressed again.
